Election Prediction

Working at the polling station was by far the best job that I ever had. I definetly enjoyed actually doing something that contributed to the progress of democracy. I was a polling inspector and basically my job was to set up voters on Florida’s electronic voting machine as they came in to vote. Every time I set someone up, I said, “Happy Voting.” I thought it was most appropriate. In training they taught us that the average age of a poll worker is seventy-two For the most part, that was true in my polling station. The manager or clerk (as they are called) was sevety-eight Now, I’ll be the first to say that she was full spunk, but my goodness. There was no one there that was remotely my age. Only one guy my age came in to vote. Everyone at the precint was incredibly sweet and kind. I kinda wish I lived in South Miami again and got to work with them more. I highly recommend this job for anyone. By just being there, you feel as though you’ve become a part of the community-even if you don’t live there. I don’t live in the area that I was assigned to, but either way the journey was welcoming.
During the morning we had lines down the block, but at night we were able to close at seven without a problem. I thank my stars to early voting. This is the first time in history that it’s ever been done. When I went back to campus, I couldn’t sleep. I stayed up all night and watched the live news broadcast via my computer. Seeing Bush take the majority of the swing states broke my heart, but even I can’t reject that majority rules. All I have to say is, if gas prices go to three dollars a gallon, (there at $2.10 now) I will be forced to walk-everywhere. And in Florida that is not easy-this isn’t new york, everything is far apart. Plus, jobs are scarce. I guess the country likes the way things are. Oh, well. At least after these four years he can’t be re-elected. Predictions for 2008: John Edwards and Hilary Clinton. First Female President? She’s got my vote!

2004 Elections

Tomorrow I have to be at the polling station at six in the morning! I think it’s going to be really cool to apart of the democratic process. I mean where else can I see up close and personal all of the drama of this election. I have a hunch that we will not know who the president is by days end. I mean, to be honest, the race is too close. Even speaking as a Floridan, this state is as deadlocked moreso now, than it was four years ago. I know, I know-as if that was possible.
I really hope John Kerry wins. I already voted for him during the early voting. I wish everyone could vote online-wouldn’t that be easy? Everyone would be able to vote then. They should create a system to make that possible. Even if they preach voter fraud, no matter what type of voting system, that’s going to happen anyways.
Gosh, I’m tired. Yesterday, I think I slept about four hours. I left my dvd case in the library and was frantic when I woke up and couldn’t find it. I went back to the library this morning and low and behold, there it was, in the bathroom. I thought that I had lost all of my precious movies and cds. I was on the verge of tears. I saw the law students in the breezeway all night until early this morning (they were there from midnight to six in the am. The breezeway is the area outside the library that we have. It is lit and semi-enclosed.)
I have to end this entry and go put gas in my car because I am so tired-I don’t want to fall asleep, but it’s happening! More after the elections. Hope everyone voted!
